Justice Formation 

In leading the IHM parish members to a deeper understanding of social justice, we try to provide a variety of formation opportunities. They include:  

  • Annually Journey to Justice Retreat is offered to explore various topics such as immigration, poverty, housing, and other issues over a weekend with an inner city plunge experience.  Contact Sue Keefe 232 9702. skkeefe@fuse.net
  • Salt and Light:  Developed by two conference committees from the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) : Approved by the Catholic bishops of the United States at their General Meeting in November 1993. Communities of Salt and Light: Reflections on the Social Mission of the Parish.  Salt and Light retreats explore the scriptural basis for Social Ministry.  The USCCB website on Salt and Light states "the Church's social mission is an essential measure of every parish community, and it needs more attention and support within our  parishes."   October 7-November 4, 2009.(http://www.usccb.org/sdwp/saltandlight.shtml.orig)
  • Sunday Social Issue Forums: Offered two Sunday mornings next year in collaboration with PRP.  Speakers will be meaningful to parishioners of all ages!!  January 10, 2010 and February 14, 2010. 10-11am  (Heritage West).  Contact Sue Keefe 232 9702. skkeefe@fuse.net
  • Justfaith (Justfaith.org) is offered when there are enough students interested in the course. Just Faith is a national program, based in Louisville, Kentucky.  The goal of the Just Faith progam is to "empower people of faith to develop a passion and thirst for justice".  Contact Jack Newfield 474 6249. newfield6@fuse.net  
  • Vacation Bible School:  Each year, Vacation Bible School leaders incorporate a mission segment to the VBS Curriculum.  The 2009 theme will be "God's Love is Worth Sharing".  The campers will have an opportunity to meet parishioners from Our Lady of the Mountain Parish (Stanton, Kentucky) and hear about how they can help our local poor through the Loose Change Collection on Sundays.
