PEA Meeting Minutes

November 15, 2010  Monday @7pm

Place:  Fatima room

Prayed the Rosary

Present: Grace Schmidlin, Jeanine Schmolt, Sally Schroder, Barb Smith, Pat Tekulve

Position available, rewards are great!

If you (or an adorer friend) would be interested in learning more about the Midnight Division leader position, please email Sally Schroder for a job description or call Grace Schmidlin (parish directory). The midnight division has a loyal group of adorers and would need only occasional contact. We on the core team know that, through the work of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, our names are written on Jesus’ Sacred Heart. A little bit of work for such benefits! Prayerfully consider joining us. (You don’t need to adore during the midnight hours.)

We’ll ask Linda Reekers to make a tent card with the need for a Division Leader. (Sally)

Quick take: Steve Green will cover the remaining three kneelers in the chapel in the next month of so.

New: Division Leaders will now report the adds, drops, and changes from their divisions to the coordinators.

  • Morning:  Pat Tekulve (New information Pat Merz will be our new 8 am captain!)

2 new adorers.

  • Afternoon:  Jeanine Schmolt 2 new adorers, 2 drops

  • Evening: Barb Smith 6 new adorers, 18 drops, 3 changes

Pat Manton needs more adorers for 6 pm. Call Grace Schmidlin if you can help.

  • Midnight: No changes.

Sally Schroder will be the temporary DL. Please do your tracking just a few minutes each week.       Let me know when there are changes/drops. An updated hourly chart from the midnight, 1, 4, and 5 am hours would be appreciated/is needed. (Please put the revised date at the top.)

Coordinator’s report:  Drops: 3   Adds: 8  Changes: 2   Total # of Adorers:  383  (We received 7 new adorers  from the Stewardship Sign up. Thanks to Grace Schmidlin for contacting all.) The importance of coming on time was emphasized.

Regarding the Stewardship Ministry report on how many and who are our adorers: Jayne Simms was contacted in the parish office.  She will use her list for our ministry list as it is continually updated by way of our DLs. Steve Green received a thank you note from the coordinators.

Captains, tracking just got easier!  Barb Smith, Evening Division Leader, created a new sign in sheet which spreads across both sides of the binder. This was at the suggestion of one of her captains.

This is how it will work. On the LEFT hand side, the names of all regular adorers will be preprinted. The adorer puts a check next to his/her name and writes it in as well. If your name is not on the sheet, write it under the preprinted ones. Fill in the information as indicated.

The sheet on the RIGHT hand side is only for visitors and subs only. If you are a sub, print the regular adorer’s name and yours (sub) next to it.  Example:  Joe Smith/ Mary Jones.

We hope that this will offer you ease of tracking. We’ll start in February.

When you do your “tracking” and, if there are absences that are not covered by a sub., follow up with a call and write the date and information on the tracking sheet. That way, your DL will know what’s going on. We have lost many adorers recently, just slipped under the radar. If each adorer knows his/ her captain is available, he is more apt to call or email you when stopping their adoration hour. A chance to ask if maybe another time might be more workable…Then, place your tracking sheets in your division’s folder in the PEA closet at the time designated by your DL.

Helping our adorers: We will place a question on a tent card on the Sign In table with practical reminders for Adorers. Example: Do you know the name of the person you adore with? It will include the answer. The focus is to keep the mechanics of our PEA ministry running smoothly.

Expanding exposition:  It is our desire to expand the hours of exposition. It would be wonderful to do this as a Christmas gift to the parish. To consider this, there needs to be someone who is regular and strong to expose and repose at the new time.

After considering various blocks of time, the decision is to move forward with expanding exposition on ALL Fridays, joining with First Friday, but going only from 1-5pm to start.  (Need another adorer at 3 pm.) We will ask Dave Auxier for his ok. If affirmative, ask Dave if he will expose and ask Linda and Jeff Gauggel if they would repose.

Offering hours of adoration

We talked about the document Eucharistic Adoration for the Sanctification of Priests and Spiritual Maternity, published by the Congregation for the Clergy in the Vatican.  First published on December 8, 2007, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, it asks everyone, all Catholics, to offer ourselves in some way for our priests and priestly vocations. The focus is offering hours of adoration and prayers in general.

The suggestion is to have a poster with pictures of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary saying

“I offered an hour of adoration for a priest this week.” The adorer would sign his/her name each time an hour is offered for a priest/seminarian/vocations. Start would be January 2nd.

Not addressed: Grace Schmidlin would like an adorer to accompany her in visiting ministry meetings at IHM to support and possibly share the blessings of adoration. Sign ups would be invited. Please contact Grace for more information.

The International Pilgrim Virgin Statue was a very special blessing to our parish. Questions were asked about Scapular enrollment. When can this happen so that everyone who has the desire to wear a scapular can have it blessed and be enrolled? (fyi: Once enrolled, always enrolled no matter how many scapulars replace the original.)

Elijah Cup:  Deacon Bill Mullaney has informed us that all weeks are taken for the next three months.

Holiday Hours:  Thanksgiving- Stop formal adoration on Tuesday, November 23 @6 am and re-start on Sunday, Nov. 28th @ 8 pm Christmas- Stop formal adoration on Tuesday, Dec. 21@ 6 am and resume Sunday, January 2 @ 8 pm

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Please visit Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament if in town for the holidays.

Next meeting: January 17, 2011
