Below are answers to some of the questions you may have about Immaculate Heart of Mary’s new Preschool Program starting fall 2012. For additional information please contact preschool@ihom.org.
How do we register?
We will begin registration for the 2012-2013 school year on January 22nd at the IHM School open house. We will have registration materials posted online the week of January 16th. We will also have registration packets available during the open house.
Can the preschool kids ride the bus with the other IHM students enrolled in the day school?
It will depend on the school district that you live in. Different districts have various policies regarding preschool. I would suggest contacting the transportation office of your local school district. At this time, Forest Hills will not transport preschool aged children.
Will you have a drop-off line?
Yes, we will have a drop-off line for the parents to utilize if they choose. The parents may also choose to park and walk their child into the classroom each day.
What type of training will your teachers have?
All of our teachers will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education and will hold a current teaching license from the Ohio Department of Education.
What is your student/teacher ratio?
Our ratio will vary depending on the class. Our classes will range from 15-18 students. Each class will have a licensed teacher and full time classroom aide.
Will each classroom have bathroom facilities?
Each classroom has been designed to include child-sized restrooms and sinks.
Will all the students in your different 4 year old classes be ready for Kindergarten?
All 4 year old classes will focus on the Early Learning Content Standards set by the Ohio Department of Education. It is our goal that all students leaving any 4 year old class at the preschool will be prepared for Kindergarten.
What is the difference between the 4 year old classes that are 3 days/week and the Pre K class?
The students enrolled in the Pre K class will have 6 additional hours of class each week. These students will engage in more enrichment opportunities. They will focus on same the standards as the 3 days/week classes, but delve deeper into the material with additional activities.
If my child attends preschool at IHM, will he/she have priority for registration into Kindergarten?
Students that attend IHM preschool will have priority as a current student into Kindergarten.
Is there a multi-student discount?
The preschool will be self-supporting and will not receive subsidies from the parish. The tuition is set and we can't offer a multi-student discount.
Will the preschool follow the day school calendar?
The preschool will follow the day school schedule throughout the school year. We will have a staggered start with the students, as they do in Kindergarten and first grade.
When do the students need to turn 3 in order to be enrolled in the 3 year old class?
All students enrolled in the 3 year old class need to be 3 on or before September 30th.
Can I pay for the entire year at one time?
Families can choose to pay one payment at the beginning of the year or they can choose to pay monthly. We are in the process of working out the details and hope to offer an easy option for monthly payment.
Will the students wear uniforms?
The students will not have uniforms. We will have a preschool t-shirt that will be available just for the preschool students. The students will also be given the opportunity to purchase IHM spirit wear with the rest of the school.
Where will the students eat lunch?
At this time, we are planning to have the students eat in the Preschool building. Once the weather gets cold, we don't want the students to have to leave the building each day.
We are not planning to give the students the option to purchase a lunch, as most of the younger students would rather eat what their parents pack them. We will have a milk option available for purchase each day. We are looking into special "monthly lunches" for the students, but we don't have that finalized as of now.
